I am trying to control the volume of 2 mp3s reacting to the amplitude of separate bands. I want each mp3 to change volume independently. Is this possible?

Yes, you need some other element to mix them with different amplitude, for example ExpressionEvaluator. Unless there is only one per channel, in that case no need to mix, just adjust amplitude with some element like CMixer or ExpressionEvaluator.
