|
I've just purchased BioEra. I downloaded and installed version 3.004 on my Windows 7 x64 machine, and registered -- no problem. Then I downloaded and installed version 3.166. At the completion of the install, I got a message:
Program Compatability Assistant This program might not have installed correctly. If this program didn't install correctly, try reinstalling using settings that are compatable with this version of Windows. Program: Unknown Program Publisher: Unknown Publisher Location: [drive path of upgrade file]ioera-pro-3.166-upgrade-win.exe
The error window allows me to select one of three options: 1) Reinstall using recommended settings. 2) This program installed correctly. 3) Cancel
There's also a link for \"What settings are applied?\" Clicking on this, I learn --
***************************************************************************** What is the Program Compatibility Assistant?
The Program Compatibility Assistant detects known compatibility issues in older programs. After you have run an older program in this version of Windows, it notifies you if there is a problem and offers to fix it the next time you run the program. If the compatibility issue is serious, the Program Compatibility Assistant might warn you or block the program from running. If that happens, you'll have the option to check online for possible solutions.
What changes does it make?
It depends on the problem, but any changes made are related to how Windows runs the program. No changes are made to the program, itself. For example, the Program Compatibility Assistant can resolve conflicts with User Account Control, a security feature in Windows that can help make your computer safer. Or, it can run the program in a mode that simulates earlier versions of Windows. The changes that Program Compatibility Assistant makes are done automatically, so you don't need to make them.
Why do I see the Program Compatibility Assistant if the installation was successful?
The Program Compatibility Assistant might appear if a program or driver didn't register correctly in Programs and Features in Control Panel during installation. This can sometimes happen during the installation of a device. Click This program installed correctly to close the Program Compatibility Assistant. *****************************************************************************
At this point, I haven't done anything further. The error window is still open. What should I do?
Thank you. |

Please select the option 2:
This program installed correctly.
BioEra has been tested on Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7, and it has no known compatibility problem. |

Jarek,
Thank you. No doubt that would have worked.
However, out of caution, I tried something else first. I canceled the install, disabled my antivirus / firewall program (BitDefender) and tried the install again. This time it went through cleanly. So I think it's possible that BitDefender had actually blocked part of the installation.
If that hadn't done the trick, I would have rebooted in safe mode and tried again.
Then, as a last resort, I would have clicked option 2: \"This program installed correctly.\"
Again, thanks!

| Thank you for sharing this information. Yes, antivirus can definitely be a reason. I have never seen this error here when installing BioEra. |

I saw this error after upgrading from XP to Win 7. The base version of BIoEra installed well, the update gave me the same error message. I friend also had the same problem Clicking to indicate that the program was properly installed worked just fine. I use the windows security anti virus, but had it turned off when I installed and still got the error.
It is pesky but not hard to deal with
