Namaste.

My name is S. Santo Sengupta. I work as a technician and systems administrator for Dr. Hirshberg of the Neurodevelopment Center in Providence, Rhode Island. ( http://www.neurodevelopmentcenter.com )
We're a psychology clinic that specializes in neurofeedback, and we are active in conducting pilot studies on the efficacy of neurofeedback.

We have a wide range of products at our clinic - NeuroCybernetic's EEGer system, Brainmaster's Atlantis system, and several Bioexplorer systems with various amplifiers. We have just recently acquired BioEra for use with Jeff Carmen's revised HEG system.

I've been impressed with the rate of development of BioEra since I became interested in the field (3 years ago), and I was wondering if you had any interest with developing capabilities for doing scientific testing for your product. More specifically, we are looking for a way to do Double Blind/Sham Feedback for a client population.

So far, the only company that has implemented this process is NeuroCybernetic's EEGer system. With their system, one queues up a set of pre-existing recordings. When a \"sham\" patient is selected, instead of getting a live signal, the pre-recorded file is played back instead. They did a very convincing job with this, including factoring in the live signal into the session, so for example, if the patient produced artifact or an electrode falls off, even the \"sham\" signal will show that.

If you are interested in working with us to develop and test such capabilities in BioEra, please let us know. In any case, I look forward to installing BioEra at the Center and becoming more familiar with it.

Peace.
-Santo Sengupta

The LENS on BioEra is nearing its launch date in May. It, too, will have double-blind capability as it always has had in its Atlantis and J&J versions. In these versions, someone with no contact with the subject during the research performs the mapping and other evaluations. The information treatment planning is then provided to the double-blinded equipment operator, who follows the evaluation-generated instructions. On the double-blind software there are no graphic in either active or sham versions. The sham version does not provide feedback as does the active version. Neither the subject nor the operator can detect any difference. Everything else about the LENS is the same. Of course, both subjects and operators do have their guesses about who is getting the sham and who is getting the active version.

Please let me know if there are any questions about this.

Best regards,

Len
